Etherow veterans "B" storm to victory over King George's veterans "B" in the Stamford Cup Final played on Oxford Park this afternoon.

The team from Ashton must have wondered what hit them as the "Tea Boys" from Hollingworth literally ran riot in this very one sided match, running in eight winners, the best of which was to seven.

King George's only two returns, came via their number one block, who won to nine which was the first game off,and a win to twenty, which in hindsight was never going to be enough on the day.

It finished Etherow 201 chalks King George's 148 chalks ( handicap included in the final score )

Thanks to Oxford Park for hosting and the refreshments made available.

Strengthening the squad is always an advantage Joker and we always seek to do so.

Muzzer is not being replaced. He is moving on and we are adding new players to the squad.

Jack will speak for himself

2nd place is a possibilty but unfortunately a very small one

I don't think we have enough for a 2nd string yet but we are leaving that option open for now.

So many answers...... Grin

Today is the final of the Stamford Cup between Etherow "B" and King Georges "B" at Oxford Park,a bowling green of which I had my first taste of the game many years ago.

The two leagues matches played between these two sides, suggests on paper at least that this match should be a mere formality for the "Tea Boys" from the Boulevard, but as we know league form counts for little in a Cup Final.

When Etherow made the relatively short trip to King Georges, they won at a canter by 13.5 pts, to the home sides 3 pts also taking the agg with it by 181 chalks to 150 chalks.

The return at the Boulevard was a much tighter affair, with the home side returning an 8 pts to 6 pts win and sneaking the aggy by the narrowest of margins...182 chalks to 181 chalks.

The handicap for todays Final is King Georges are on (+10) while Etherow are (+4) the handicap is niether here nor there, but this could make all the difference come the final reckoning.

Good luck to both sides....

Full report to follow in due course.

Does this result mean that strengthening the ToN squad is inevitable when the next transfer window opens,if you are to achieve your goal of promotion to the top flight ?

Who's not quite doing it for you ? will players be shipped out ?

Who will replace the "Muzzer the Great" ?

Did pieman win ? and can you get his signature on paper for next season ?

Is second place still a possibility ?

Are you looking at starting a second string in the S & D in a lower league ?

So many questions..... Grin

Stick together and forget averages-- it's the team that matters not individuals

Funny you shoud say that Dave, Cranny called down at the ToN as he was passing and I said the very same thing to him. "My only concern is that we get a good result to secure that third place, even second is still possible" That was before we lost 3 out of 10 though Sad

Great Moor 1 got relegated from A division tonight. Whaley Bridge 1 were adrift. Cheadle Cons have won C division and it looks like Victoria 3 will be promoted.

Thoughts?

Thanks Dave.

I was just looking back through the archives. If we finish third or fourth in B division it is the highest league placing ever achieved by the club since the archives began online back in 2001. Not too shabby as well!
