Veteran's Handicap 2008

Thursday 19 June 2008 by Keith Robins - League Secretary

Played at Dukinfield Central Tues 17th June

Alan Hooper left his referee blazer at home to storm to the Vet's title

for this year. All the more remarkable as 'Hoops' played with a reserve

set of bowls!

After edging out last year's winner, and title holder Mike Reed in the

preliminary, The Bush stalwart, and League President sent Bill Bates

and Bill Bezer to the spectator benches to land the final against an

in-form Alan Hoy of the Navigation.

Alan Hooper found the running - and his new 1st choice woods - to his

liking and ran out 21-11.

P&E Pairs

Monday 16 June 2008 by Keith Robins - League Secretary

Lowes Arms hosted this year's P&E Pairs Handicap at the Riverside Green.

Homester James Jones and yours truly ending the day victors from a

strong field.

Eventual runners up Ronnie and Robert Newton, had come through the top

half of the draw that numbered a handful of County bowlers. The father

and son duo had put paid to Labour Club's Mike Flitcroft and Charlie

Roberts in their semi-final 21-15 to book their place in the final.

The newly formed James Norths partnership of James and myself had sent

James' own father and brother (Andy and Matt) packing in the other semi-

final 21-17.

The final itself was a worthy finale, to what was a fine days bowling.

Ronnie's, and my own leads that had worked so well through the earlier

rounds, now began to falter when it really mattered, as the green began

to lose some of it's earlier pace. This brought the younger partners to

the fore, with some fine bowling through 'pairs traffic'. Rob and James

dug their partners out of holes on more than one occasion, turning 2

and 3 deficits, into winning ends.

Even a mid game break of 8 wasn't enough to keep the Newton pair at bay,

and with the final tied at 19, I managed to find a decent lead that

James followed in to win 21-19.

Thanks go to all the participants for an excellent turn-out, and in

particular to Caz Hardy and Lowes Arms members for all their help and

hard work.

Vet's League Results

Wednesday 11 June 2008 by Ken Smart - Vets Data Entry

It may be that not all team captains have access to the Internet but it would be appreciated if clubs could try to arrange for someone within their club(Or a relative) to enter results by the email reporting system already established.

As can be seen from the results pages there are lots of match reports that have yet to be submitted. This applies particularly to Divs 1 and 3 and also includes an number in the Premier Div and Div 2.

Will all team captains try to ensure that match results are submitted as soon as possible after the fixture date so that results and "Stats" can be kept fully up to date.

Points conceded by league champions issue now resolved and explained

Thursday 05 June 2008 by Brian Smart - Webmaster

As you may be aware, there was a problem with the calculation of tables and stats caused by league rules 18 and 19 (midweek & Saturday leagues) where the league champions forfeit 20 chalks for each home game they play.

I beleive I have fixed this problem now and that the tables are accurate but I would appreciate any feedback you can provide if you see any problems anywhere.

This issue was brought about when Ashton Cricket played away to George & Dragon 'A' in the Premiership.

The game finished 190 - 172 to the Dragon from 7 home winners which would put the result at

7 x 1pts + 2 for the agg = 9 to the Dragon
3 x 1.5pts = 4.5 to Ashton CC

According to rules 18 & 19, As champions playing at home, George & Dragon must concede 20 points to their visting opponents.

So... with the conceded points rule in place the result was 190 - 192 to Ashton Cricket giving them the agg.

7 x 1pts = 7 to the Dragon
3 x 1.5pts + 3 for the agg = 7.5 to Ashton CC

Thus, Ashton CC won the game and not lost it as previously reported.

Thanks are due to Bryan O'Neill from Springhead (Saddleworth in the Vets league) who first highlighted the ruling to me in reference to the Vets team, Waterloo Cons where they have a slight variation on the ruling.

Thanks are also due to Keith Robins who is my 'Glitcher-Spotter' and he does a damn fine job of it.
