Welcome to the JNMBC website

The website has been designed to help promote all aspects of Crown Green Bowling

Even though the site belongs to a private bowling club, it incorporates a public gallery of photos and other images provided by the bowling community. Everyone is invited to submit their own photos or images to the gallery and all pictures are welcomed so long as they are decent and relevant to crown green bowling. A random selection of those images is shown below

Why not visit the gallery and have a look and if you have anything to submit yourself then please feel free to do so

All images are subject to scrutiny and any that are offensive will be not be posted

Smarty's Pedometer Challenge

Monday 26 July 2010 by Brian Smart - Webmaster

A Pedometer is a small electronic device that counts the number of steps you take.

I have an idea for a challenge that will earn the winner some money.

The Challenge

Take a guess at the number of steps I take in a typical game of bowls. We will choose a game in the future at random and I will wear the pedometer for the duration of the game.

Whoever can guess to the closest number of steps actually taken wins the prize money.

It will cost £5 to enter and winner takes all - Prize money dependent on entries.

Rules
1. To enter you must send me a an email with your guess and this action commits you to pay £5 entry fee. (You can PM me if you are a member on the message board)
2. A game will be chosen at random in which my steps will be measured.
3. Closing date will be midnight the day before the day of the game chosen.
4. Entries will be published on this message board on the day before the game starts.
5. You can guess as many times as you want, £5 per entry

If you think you can gain an advantage by counting the number of steps in your game then feel free. You can even use your own pedometer if you have one but remember these points:

Every game is unique.

The number of steps taken in a 21-20 result will be totally different than a those in a 21-5 result.
If we play 30 mtr marks for the entire game, it will take a lot more steps than if we play 20 mtr marks.
Suppose we get a block-up and I go and get our jack back? Thats another 50 steps we weren't counting on.

It's impossible for anyone to know the true answer to this challenge because there are so many possibilities.

The current prize fund will be displayed on the message board so that hopefully others will be encouraged to enter.

You can keep up-to-date with the latest opinions on this idea via the message board

LONGDENDALE VETS MERIT

Saturday 24 July 2010 by Dave Drury - Longdendale Match Secretary

The Vet's Merit took place at Gamesley BC on Wednesday 21st July.
The turnout was disappointing as only 4 players arrived for the competition - the League must decide whether to continue with a competition it would appear players are not interested in!!

The weather was glorious after the recent rain we had suffered, the green was superb condition and was a credit the Gamesley BC.

The draw for the semi-finals saw Ivor Ibbotson (Spring Gardens) drawn against clubmate Davae Drury, Ivor won 21-18. The other semi-final was between George Rogers (Trades Hall) and Neville Bray (Hadield), George winning 21-13.

The Final saw George Rogers win the merit beating Ivor Ibbotson 21-13.

Congratulation George.

Tameside League - Presidents Handicap - 11th July

Monday 28 June 2010 by Keith Robins - Tameside League Secretary

Unfortunatley this year's Presidents Handicap has been cancelled.

With Glossop's green being out of action for the season, and a number

of original entrants diverting to other Comps on the same day, it's felt

that entries would not reach a sufficient level to merit running the

this competition.

The possibility of a change of date was also considered, but again,

these clashed with number of other Competitions.

PAUL BUNTING WINS LONGDENDALE PRESIDENTS HANDICAP

Tuesday 22 June 2010 by Dave Drury - Longdendale Match Secretary

The Longdendale Presidents Handicap was held on Sunday 20th June at Hadfield B.C.
Despite a poor turnout from member clubs (only 3 entries, with 9 entries from Hadfield) the day proved to be quite successful.
The green was in excellent condition, with fine bowling throughout the competition.
Worthy winner was Paul Bunting who beat Trevor Rothwell in the final 21-14.
Thanks to Hadfield for hosting the competition, and especially Joyce who kept the bowlers supplied with food and drinks all day.
